We have a new school building in Kitame!
This is our fifth building that we have provided to the local school and proud of each one of them. It has been a journey sustainably developing the school due to the isolated location and general lack of resources. There must be value, demand, and sufficient teaching resources to ensure that the school runs well.
This contribution is our way of giving back to a community that needs it the most. Our isolated position has meant that it is 2 years in the making, particularly the record rainfall in 2023 didn't help.
How is this school building going to contribute to the school's success?
The main aim of this building was to ensure that age groups are split more evenly between correct grades. Previously, the different grades were mixed due to the lack of space and resources. Hopefully, this will alleviate the issue with more space available. We are now working with the local council to provide more teachers to the area to support the growing local population. One step at time!
In 2023, we received an award from the Bagamoyo District, our local council, for our education projects. It is great to receive recognition for the ongoing work that we have done to building a successful Kitame. It invigorates us to continue and sustainably grow the community.
What's next?
Well, we have a clean water project that will finish in 2025. This is to change the fresh water pump system from diesel to electric and run off solar power! There are two important factors to this project. First is the need for more renewable energy sources to power the region. Secondly, road access is limited during the rains causing a disruption in supplies. The solar power will reduce this impact and create a continuous system. Stay tuned for more!
